  Welcoming visiting Artists ::

The studio building is composed of four large well-equipped working studios with a
central communal kitchen. A working space will be allocated to each visiting artist for a stay of from one month to six months. A permanent artist will always be available for consultation and discussion if desired. (We receive no more than 4 visiting artists at the same time.)

  • SCULPTURE: clay, plaster, wax, and limestone from local quarries. There is a bronze foundry two hours away by car. Ceramic sculpture can be fired in our ceramic studio.
  • CERAMICS: 1 electric kiln.
  • PAINTING & DRAWING: basics provided.

FOURWINDS is located within easy reach of Arles, Avignon, and Aix-en- Provence where there are many historical buildings, ruins dating back to Roman times, beautiful and varied landscapes, mountains, plains, famous marshlands (the Camargue), and walking paths into the Alpilles directly from the studios. The "Midi" is also an interesting blend of cultural influences: French, Italian, Spanish, Tunisian, Moroccan, and Algerian.

We will meet visiting artists at their point of arrival (train- Aries, airport- Marseille)
and help them to settle in. We make every effort to make our artists feel comfortable and "at home" during their stay here. There is always the possibility of shared lunches, tea & coffee breaks, and visits to local village festivals and market places.

The emphasis at FOURWINDS is placed on new discovery and the process, not on rules & regulations. We do not ask artists to produce final results. We stay as flexible as possible in order to allow enough freedom for expansion.

We will hold open the possibility of an exhibition at FOURWINDS if, by the end of his
or her stay, the artist feels he or she is adequately prepared.
